Wake Up On Fire - Green Mouth

I read that Kevin Hannigan, drummer for Baltimore sludge band Wake Up On Fire, died yesterday at the age of 25. It’s weird how you grow up listening to this music and cross paths with people over the years, it really is a small world. I wasn’t friends with him or anything, but I remember hanging out with him really vividly. The first time was at a show at Cobra House in Savannah. I remember sitting in Brooks’ kitchen after they played with Kevin, Lia, and some other people - eating terrible vegan chili, staying up late, and talking about music while they drank 40s and smoked cigarettes. I ran into him a few years later in Baltimore - Ryan & I were up there for Death Fest one summer. Some distro table had a copy of their LP, and I was talking about how much I loved that album, and then Kevin walks up behind me and goes, “That’s my band! I remember you from that show in Georgia!” We stood out in this parking lot getting sunburned and talking shit with him for most of that afternoon.

RIP, I still have the LP you gave me that night in Savannah.

(“Green Mouth” is one of my all-time favorite songs ever, mostly because of the drum intro. If you want a copy of their album you can get it here)
